Texas clinic owner convicted in $26 million TRICARE fraud scheme
Kevin D. Curry, 64, has been convicted in federal court for orchestrating a $26 million fraud scheme targeting TRICARE, the healthcare program for U.S. military members, retirees, and their families. Curry, who owned mental health clinics in Plano and Fort Worth, Texas, and Fort Walton Beach, Florida, was found guilty on multiple counts, including healthcare fraud, illegal kickbacks, and money laundering.
Prosecutors established that Curry systematically billed for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy that was either medically unnecessary or never performed. To facilitate the scheme, Curry paid over $5.5 million in illegal kickbacks to recruit military personnel and veterans into consenting to the treatments. Evidence showed he falsely represented himself as a medical doctor, used the credentials of licensed physicians without their consent, and directed staff to fabricate medical records.
TRICARE paid approximately $17 million in fraudulent claims before the scheme was uncovered. Curry used the stolen funds to finance a lavish lifestyle, including hotel stays, a casino-themed party, and a gold-plated Tesla Cybertruck valued at over $100,000.
