Texas congressional candidates prepare for November elections

Several key congressional races in Texas are drawing focus ahead of the November elections. In Texas’ 21st Congressional District, Republican nominee Mark Teixeira, a former Major League Baseball player, and Texas State Representative Wes Virdell are scheduled to hold a town-hall style event in Bandera. The seat is currently open following Chip Roy’s decision not to seek reelection, and Teixeira will face Democratic nominee Kristin Hook in the general election.

In Texas’ 28th Congressional District, which extends from San Antonio to the U.S.-Mexico border, Democratic incumbent Henry Cuellar is facing a challenge from Republican candidate Tano Tijerina. Cuellar, a conservative Democrat who has held the seat since 2005, has faced recent legal scrutiny regarding federal bribery and money laundering charges, though he was pardoned in December 2025. Tijerina, the former Webb County judge, is seeking to unseat him in a race that has garnered significant local and national attention.
