Hinojosa’s platform includes ending state school vouchers and reducing costs for healthcare, groceries, and utilities, as well as proposing a $1,500 payment to residents from the state rainy day fund. Notably, some conservative voters are motivated by Hinojosa’s proposal to impose a moratorium on data center projects, a move they contrast with Abbott’s support for such developments.

While these voters may still support Republican candidates like Ken Paxton for the U.S. Senate, their willingness to vote for a Democrat in the gubernatorial race suggests a shifting political landscape. Recent polling shows Hinojosa within one point of Abbott, narrowing the typical Republican advantage in the state.
