Kevin Curry convicted in $26M military healthcare fraud scheme

A federal jury in Fort Worth has convicted Kevin D. Curry, a 64-year-old licensed professional counselor from Frisco, Texas, for his role in a $26 million healthcare fraud and money laundering scheme. Curry orchestrated the fraud by targeting TRICARE, the healthcare program for active-duty servicemembers, retirees, and their families.

Prosecutors established that Curry operated mental health clinics in Plano and Fort Worth, Texas, as well as Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He used these facilities to bill for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy that was either medically unnecessary or never actually provided. To facilitate the scheme, Curry reportedly paid over $5.5 million in illegal kickbacks to persuade military members and their families to consent to the treatments.

Evidence presented at trial showed that Curry fabricated medical records and used the identities of actual doctors without their consent to submit fraudulent claims. The proceeds from the scheme were used to fund various personal luxuries, including hotel stays, a casino-themed party, and a gold-plated Tesla Cybertruck valued at over $100,000. Curry was found guilty on counts of healthcare fraud, offering and paying illegal kickbacks, and engaging in monetary transactions in criminally derived property.
