Texas Democrats lead in Senate and Governor polls

A new Marist poll indicates that Democrats are leading in key Texas statewide races, suggesting increased competitiveness in the state. In the race for governor, Democrat Gina Hinojosa holds 49% support against incumbent Republican Greg Abbott, who has 46%. This margin falls within the poll's 4-percentage-point margin of error, indicating a statistical tie.

In the Texas Senate race, Democrat James Talarico leads Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton with 50% of the vote to Paxton's 44%. The poll highlights that both Democratic candidates are gaining support among independent voters, with Talarico at 55% and Hinojosa at 52%.

Despite these figures, voter sentiment remains skeptical regarding a Democratic victory; 52% of respondents expect Paxton to win the Senate race, and 68% believe Abbott will be reelected. The polling also notes a difficult national environment for Republicans, with only 43% of Texas voters approving of Donald Trump's job performance.
