Texas District Attorney investigates controversial transgender rights mailers

A Texas district attorney has launched an investigation into political mailers sent to families across the state, exploring whether the documents constitute forgery. The pamphlets, which purport to come from the ‘Texas Transgender Student Union,’ provide information regarding transgender student rights, medical care, and emancipation.

While the mailers use a Houston-area post office box and claim affiliation with Texas-based advocacy groups, state records show no such organization is registered in Texas. Instead, filings indicate the ‘Texas Transgender Student Union’ was registered as a limited liability company in Wyoming in September. Wyoming’s business regulations do not require the disclosure of members or managers, which has obscured the true source of the materials.

District Attorney Sarah Stogner, representing Loving, Reeves, and Ward counties, stated the investigation is looking into potential forgery, a state jail felony. Critics and officials have suggested the mailers are a political tactic intended to influence upcoming midterm elections, specifically within competitive Senate races. While some view the messaging as a resource for students, others describe it as a predatory attempt to agitate voters.
