Texas doctor loses medical license over abortion ban violation

The Texas Medical Board has revoked the medical license of William Rockwell Evans, an orthopedic surgeon based in Stephenville, following allegations of violating the state’s abortion ban. According to official documents, Evans prescribed an “abortive” medication in December 2023 to a patient with whom he had an “inappropriate sexual relationship.”

The Board’s decision, issued on September 4, 2026, was described as final, though Evans has a 30-day window to appeal. Evans, who had been licensed for 27 years and operated Cross Timbers Orthopaedics, has seen his office close effective immediately.

Records indicate Evans was previously disciplined in 2020 for surgical malpractice involving operating on the wrong knee of a patient and subsequently attempting to conceal the error from the patient's family. Under current Texas law, attempting an illegal abortion is a felony that carries significant financial penalties.
