Texas dove hunting season to open statewide on September 1

The Texas dove hunting season is set to open on September 1, 2026. In a departure from previous years, the entire state will share the same opening day rather than utilizing different hunting zones.

Biologists from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department report that mourning dove and white-winged dove populations are near record highs, a trend attributed to significant rainfall during the spring. Texas historically accounts for approximately 30% of the nation's dove hunters and total dove harvest.

Hunters are advised to ensure they possess a valid 2026-27 hunting license, which became available for purchase on August 15, as previous licenses expire at the end of August.
