Texas General Land Office seeks energy innovators for state land development
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) has issued Requests for Information to invite energy innovators to develop state lands. The initiative aims to foster the next generation of energy industries to ensure dependable, ‘always-on’ power.
Targeted technologies include geothermal energy leasing, salt-cooled nuclear technology, small modular reactors, and natural gas power plants. The GLO seeks to support innovation such as salt-cooled reactor work at Abilene Christian University and small modular reactor research conducted through the Texas A&M System.
Texas currently serves as a major energy producer, accounting for 42% of United States crude oil and 27% of marketed natural gas. The state also operates 32 refineries and two nuclear power plants, the South Texas Project and Comanche Peak.
