Texas goose alerts family to middle-of-the-night barn fire

A pet goose named Goosey alerted the Gerber family to a barn fire in the early hours of August 4 in Fort Bend County, Texas. The bird's loud honking woke Bert Gerber, who was asleep on a couch, allowing him to respond to the blaze with a water hose.

Security camera footage captured the goose emerging from the burning structure to sound the alarm. The barn contained various animals, including chickens, turkeys, and roosters, all of whom escaped unharmed. The family was able to extinguish the flames before the fire could spread further or become uncontrollable.

The goose had been part of the family for approximately four months, having been brought home after the owner's daughter met the bird at a poultry expo. Following the incident, the family expressed deep gratitude for the animal's actions and is considering getting Goosey a companion.
