Texas GOP nominee Bo French faces backlash over racist social media post
Republican candidate Bo French, the nominee for the Texas Railroad Commission, has faced widespread condemnation from both Republican and Democratic leaders following a social media post targeting students of color.
French shared a photograph of South Asian students celebrating a University of Texas football victory, claiming the image illustrated how Americans are being “displaced by foreigners.” In response, U.S. Senator John Cornyn criticized the post as “intolerance and racism,” warning that such behavior could cause political parties to “self-destruct.”
Republican leadership in Texas also weighed in, with House Speaker Dustin Burrows, State Representative Jeff Leach, and State Representative Lacey Hull calling for French to delete the post. Burrows stated that while immigration policy can be opposed, the post “crossed the line” by demeaning people based on race or ethnicity. Democratic opponents, including State Representative James Talarico and Houston Democrat Jon Rosenthal, also condemned the remarks as blatant racism.
