Texas Governor Greg Abbott leads in polls against Gina Hinojosa

Republican Governor Greg Abbott and Democratic challenger Gina Hinojosa are competing for the Texas governorship in the upcoming November 3 election. Recent polling data indicates a slight advantage for Abbott, who leads in nine out of ten recent surveys by margins ranging from one to seven percentage points. One YouGov poll shows the candidates in an exact tie at 47% each.

The campaigns have centered on economic issues and affordability. Abbott’s campaign has criticized Hinojosa’s record on property taxes, alleging that during her tenure on the Austin ISD school board and in the Texas Legislature, she supported tax increases. Conversely, Hinojosa has campaigned on plans to increase affordability by targeting grocery store price gouging and restricting private equity firms from purchasing residential homes.
