Texas gubernatorial race shows high early voter turnout

Early voting for the upcoming November 3 elections in Texas has seen significant engagement, with approximately 4.5 million residents casting ballots. This represents a roughly 50% increase compared to the same period during the 2022 midterm elections. In Harris County, the first day of in-person voting set a record with 104,659 participants.

In the race for governor, a University of Houston poll conducted by the Hobby School of Public Affairs places Republican incumbent Greg Abbott at 49%, leading Democrat Gina Hinojosa, who holds 46%. Libertarian candidate Pat Dixon follows with 2%, while 3% of voters remain undecided. The poll carries a margin of error of 2.19 percentage points.

Separately, State Representative Gina Hinojosa has filed a lawsuit against Governor Abbott. The legal action seeks access to uncensored communications between the governor’s office and Elon Musk’s companies regarding matters such as tax incentives, broadband policy, and environmental issues. This follows a previous release of 1,374 pages of documents, of which only about 200 were unredacted.
