Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian evaluates offense after losses
Following a 27-24 loss to unranked Florida, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has announced a comprehensive evaluation of the team’s offensive performance. This marks the program’s second consecutive loss to an unranked opponent, following a defeat to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry. The Longhorns, who previously held the No. 1 ranking, now sit at 4-2 for the season.
Much of the scrutiny focuses on the offense and senior quarterback Arch Manning. Manning’s recent performance, including a fumble during a critical late-game drive against Florida, has led to discussions regarding a potential change at quarterback. Sarkisian stated that “everything is going to be evaluated,” noting that no player or aspect of the game is exempt from critique.
Financial implications for the university are also a factor, as Sarkisian is under a contract worth over $80 million through 2031. A buyout could cost the program significantly, potentially upwards of $50 million depending on the specific terms of his amended 2025 agreement. Despite the recent struggles, Texas maintains a mathematical path to the College Football Playoff through its remaining schedule.
