Texas heat wave pushes power grid toward record demand

North and Central Texas are experiencing triple‑digit temperatures with heat‑index values as high as 115 °F, prompting health warnings for outdoor workers, seniors and children. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) projects electricity demand to peak between 80,000 MW and 90,000 MW, approaching the all‑time high of 85,508 MW set on Aug. 10, 2023. ERCOT says its six‑day supply forecast should meet the surge, but officials warn that outages during such extreme heat could endanger public health and disrupt businesses.
