Texas implements data center regulations as Bank of America pledges $250B for US infrastructure
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced new operational infrastructure regulations for large-scale technology companies. Core Scientific, Vantage Data Centers, and SB Energy have committed to complying with these rules, which aim to safeguard the state's electrical grid, maintain water resources, and ensure that data center operators cover their own structural costs.
The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) will oversee new infrastructure. Developers must now disclose future electricity demands and provide energy generation plans located on-site to reduce reliance on the state's main grid. Additionally, companies must undergo audits regarding their financing, including the disclosure of any taxpayer incentives or public subsidies.
In a separate move to support national development, Bank of America has announced a $250 billion commitment to finance critical infrastructure in the United States. This initiative targets the modernization of digital and energy infrastructure to meet the rising demands of artificial intelligence, strengthen the electrical grid, and bolster the domestic manufacturing of semiconductors and other critical components.
