Texas increases hydration resources ahead of Ohio State game

The Texas Longhorns are implementing increased hydration measures ahead of their highly anticipated matchup against No. 1 Ohio State at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. This decision follows a season opener against Texas State where extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 102 degrees and a heat index of 105, resulted in 13 fans being transported to area hospitals for various medical complaints.

Athletic director Chris Del Conte announced that the university will increase its hydration resources from 16 to 19 free ‘water monsters’ stationed throughout the stadium. Fans are also permitted to bring one factory-sealed plastic water bottle of up to one liter. Despite an evening kickoff, Austin is expected to experience dangerous heat with temperatures forecasted between 100 and 102 degrees.

On the field, head coach Steve Sarkisian has emphasized the need for veteran leadership to manage the high-stakes environment. Key players identified to provide stability include quarterback Arch Manning and wide receiver Ryan Wingo as the team prepares for the sold-out contest.
