Texas Longhorns face multiple key player injuries
The Texas Longhorns are facing significant roster challenges following their 27-24 loss to Florida, as multiple key players dealt with injuries.
Defensive end Colin Simmons, a highly regarded NFL prospect, was carted off the field in the fourth quarter after sustaining a lower-leg injury. Subsequent reports indicate Simmons is dealing with a high-ankle sprain that could result in him missing several weeks of play.
The Longhorns' offensive unit is also impacted. Running back Hollywood Smothers missed Monday's practice and was seen wearing a protective sling, suggesting an upper-body injury. Additionally, freshman running back Derrek Cooper did not play in the Florida game due to health concerns, with head coach Steve Sarkisian noting that Cooper was not at 100 percent. These injuries come as Texas falls to a 4-2 record after suffering two consecutive losses.
