Texas Lottery jackpot dispute involves €71.5 million win
An 83-year-old Texas retiree, using the pseudonym Jane Doe, is engaged in a legal battle to claim a €71.5 million ($71.5 million equivalent) Lotto Texas jackpot. The win originated from a ticket purchased on February 17, 2025, via the Jackpocket Lottery mobile application.
Following the draw, the Texas Lottery implemented a new policy banning the use of unregulated third-party messaging services or applications for ticket purchases to address legal ambiguities regarding online ticket management. This regulatory change occurred between the time of the draw and the scheduled payout, resulting in the freezing of the jackpot.
Legal counsel for the winner argues that the rules in effect at the time of purchase must be honored and that regulations cannot be retroactively applied to invalidate a winning ticket. The legal proceedings against the Texas Lottery commenced on May 19, 2025.
