Texas Majority PAC under DOJ investigation for alleged vote-buying

The Department of Justice has launched an investigation into the Texas Majority PAC following the release of a viral video. The footage features Sky MacAdams, a former organizing manager for the group, describing a method to allegedly circumvent federal election laws by paying individuals to attend Zoom classes about voting.

In the video, MacAdams suggested that paying $25 to attend a one-hour session was a “roundabout way of paying people for their votes.” Federal law prohibits making payments in exchange for voting for specific candidates, a violation that can carry prison sentences. MacAdams has since been dismissed from the organization.

A spokesperson for the Texas Majority PAC, Eddie Vale, denied the allegations, stating that the payments are part of a legitimate “relational organizing program.” Vale clarified that the group hires Texans to attend events where they learn to organize friends and family, and that compensation is provided for their organizing work rather than for their votes.
