Texas nonprofit seeks to identify sender of impersonated LGBTQ+ mailers

The Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT) has been targeted by a deceptive mailer campaign involving pamphlets titled ‘TEXAS TRANS & LGBTQ+ STUDENT RESOURCE GUIDE’. The materials, which arrived in Texas mailboxes shortly before early voting began in October, contained information regarding emancipation from parents and accessing gender-affirming care out of state.

TENT has forcefully denied any affiliation with the pamphlets or accompanying text messages that used the organization’s logo, branding, and event photographs. The mailers featured a Houston return address that was nearly identical to TENT’s actual address, differing by only a single digit.

A Texas civil court judge has ruled that TENT is permitted to subpoena the LLC involved to identify the individual or group responsible for the impersonation. The incident has sparked significant social media debate, with critics suggesting the campaign may have been designed to influence voter turnout in competitive elections.
