Texas Parks and Wildlife Department creates Robbie Davis Wildlife Management Area

On August 3, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) finalized the acquisition of a 2,850‑acre parcel in Stephens County, designating it the Robbie Davis Wildlife Management Area (WMA). The land, donated by the late ranch owner Robbie Davis and stewarded for years by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, will become part of TPWD’s Cross Timbers and Prairies Ecosystem Management Project.

The WMA features post oak and live oak woodlands, sandstone bluffs, ponds and seasonal wetlands, providing habitat for native wildlife. TPWD officials say the area will offer public hunting opportunities, including walk‑in dove hunts and drawn hunts for deer, turkey and waterfowl, and will also support birdwatching, photography and research. “The new Robbie Davis WMA will go a long way to increase public hunting opportunities and support our hunting heritage,” said Alan Cain, TPWD Wildlife Division Director. The site includes the Dan Craine Unit, named for former Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation board member Dan Craine, and is located near the Dallas‑Fort Worth metroplex, giving Texans easy access to the Cross Timbers ecoregion.
