Texas public defender charged with assault and burglary

Brianna Berry, a 25-year-old public defender in Harris County, Texas, faces criminal charges following an alleged violent confrontation with her former boyfriend. According to authorities, the incident occurred on September 3 in Humble, northeast of Houston.

Investigators allege that Berry attempted to rekindle a relationship by entering a residence belonging to her ex-boyfriend’s aunt. After reportedly damaging two doors to gain entry, Berry allegedly used a hammer to strike the man on his arm and back multiple times before biting his hand. Berry has been charged with burglary of a habitation and aggravated assault.

Berry joined the Harris County Public Defender’s Office after receiving her law license in April 2026 and has primarily handled misdemeanor cases. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office stated that its priority is to maintain the trust and confidence of its employees and clients.
