Texas Railroad Commission expands inspector training and efficiency reforms

The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) partnered with Texas Tech University to launch a four‑day field inspector training program at the university’s Oilfield Technology Center in Lubbock. The course, aimed at RRC oil and gas inspectors, includes hands‑on demonstrations of well‑life‑cycle operations such as cementing, blowout prevention and well plugging. Wei Wang, RRC executive director, said the program “further strengthens our field inspectors by providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to perform their jobs at the highest level.” Marshall Watson, chair of Texas Tech’s Bob L. Herd Department of Petroleum Engineering, added that the partnership “helps inspectors build the skills they need to ensure safe and efficient energy operations across Texas.”

In a related initiative, RRC Commissioner Wayne Christian announced the next phase of the Delivering Oil and Gas Efficiently (DOGE) Task Force. The effort seeks to streamline internal processes, modernize digital infrastructure, and increase transparency through tools such as a new single sign‑on platform and an Open Data Portal. Christian said, “Our goal is simple: make the RRC more efficient, responsive and transparent while maintaining safety, environmental stewardship and regulatory integrity.” The task force will continue stakeholder engagement and implement operational improvements across the agency.
