Texas ramps up immigration enforcement and health safeguards for 2026 FIFA World Cup

Federal immigration authorities are preparing an intensified enforcement presence in Texas as the state gets ready to host matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are coordinating security strategies to manage the influx of international visitors, focusing on heightened monitoring at ports of entry and interior checkpoints, counter‑terrorism measures, cybersecurity and immigration screening.

Regional public‑health agencies across Central Texas—including Austin Public Health, Bastrop County Public Health, Bell County Public Health, Hays County Health, Waco‑McLennan County Public Health and Williamson County and Cities Health District—have expanded coordination with state and federal partners to monitor seasonal health risks associated with the tournament.
