Texas Rangers announce coaching changes and 2027 payroll strategy
Texas Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young has outlined the organization’s direction for the 2027 season, focusing on roster reallocation and coaching staff adjustments.
Regarding finances, Young stated the goal is to remain competitive while maintaining a payroll similar to the 2026 season. Current projections suggest a competitive balance tax number of approximately $194 million for 2027, which is roughly $20 million lower than the previous season. Young noted that the team is evaluating current players to determine how to reallocate funds through trades and roster changes.
On the field, the Rangers announced coaching staff updates. Assistant hitting coach Alex Cintron will move to a new role within the organization, and assistant pitching coach Dave Bush will not return. Manager Bruce Schumaker will return for his second season with most of his staff intact.
Additionally, several front office promotions were confirmed: Nick Hundley will serve as vice president of player development, Mike Parnell as vice president of pro personnel, Hamilton Wise as vice president of amateur and international scouting, and Josh Boyd as a senior advisor to the amateur and Pacific Rim departments.
