Texas Rangers president cites lack of grit for missed playoffs
Texas Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young addressed the team’s 80-82 finish, noting a lack of consistency in grit and toughness. Young stated that the team did not demonstrate the necessary resilience required to be a playoff contender, specifically citing their poor performance on the road.
The Rangers finished one game behind the Houston Astros in the American League West and missed the postseason for the third consecutive year since their 2023 World Series title. The team struggled significantly away from home, posting a 35-46 road record, and went 33-38 against teams with a winning percentage of .500 or better.
In addition to toughness, Young identified a need for more athleticism, better defensive play, improved baserunning, and a younger roster to improve future performance.
