Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager begins rehab after back injury

Corey Seager took live batting practice for the first time since his back injury, hit a home run and said another session is planned for tomorrow. The Rangers expect a minor‑league rehab assignment soon, aiming to evaluate his readiness before the August 3 trade deadline. This season Seager has appeared in only 51 games, batting .182 with 10 home runs, after missing time on the injured list for both a back strain and a concussion.

Pitcher Jordan Montgomery is also making progress in his rehab, having thrown 75 pitches for Triple‑A Round Rock and appearing in several games for Round Rock and Double‑A Frisco. The former World Series starter could be activated from the 60‑day injured list early next week after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March 2025. The Rangers hope both players will return in time to bolster the roster for the playoff push.
