Texas Rangers lead AL West as Cal Quantrill moves to injured list

The Texas Rangers have taken a one-game lead in the American League West heading into the final week of the regular season. With a 78-78 record, the team holds a slim advantage over the Houston Astros.

The victory came following a 6-3 win against the Toronto Blue Jays, but the team faces a significant setback with pitcher Cal Quantrill being placed on the 15-day injured list due to right lat tightness. Quantrill, who has been a key part of the rotation with a 2.86 ERA, exited his recent start after only 12 pitches. His absence will likely sideline him for the remainder of the regular season and the potential AL Wild Card series, though he may be eligible for a return during the Division Series.

To address the roster vacancy, the Rangers have recalled Winston Santos from Triple-A Round Rock. Manager Skip Schumaker noted that the team was aware of a dip in Quantrill’s velocity prior to his injury. The Rangers' pursuit of a postseason berth remains tight as they navigate the final six games of the season.
