Texas repurposes used EV batteries for grid energy storage

Texas is advancing circular economy initiatives in the automotive industry by repurposing used electric vehicle (EV) batteries for grid energy storage. B2U Storage Solutions has officially opened the Bexar Martinez project in Converse, Texas, which serves as a facility dedicated to recycling and giving a second life to EV batteries.

As EV sales increase, the project addresses the potential environmental threat of battery waste. The initiative demonstrates that batteries can remain viable for large-scale energy storage even after they are no longer efficient enough for automotive use, helping to strengthen clean mobility and grid stability.
