Texas school board names new elementary school after retired custodian
The Aubrey Independent School District in Texas has announced that a new campus, previously referred to as “Elementary School Number Five,” will be named “Marilyn Hampton Elementary School.” The decision serves as a tribute to Marilyn Hampton, a retired custodian who served the district for nearly 40 years.
During a recent board meeting, Superintendent Shannon Saylor surprised Hampton by asking her to perform a routine task of rolling out a red carpet. Upon inspection, Hampton discovered the new school name printed on the fabric. The announcement led to an emotional reaction from Hampton, who was embraced by board members.
Superintendent Saylor described Hampton as an educator at heart, noting that her impact extended beyond maintenance duties to include providing school supplies and assisting students with studying. The new elementary school is scheduled to open in August of next year.
