Texas shooting death of British woman sparks international legal dispute

The mother of Lucy Harrison, a 23-year-old British woman killed in Texas in January 2025, is calling for international police cooperation following a failure to indict the suspect in the United States.

Harrison was shot in the chest in Prosper, Texas, near Dallas. Her father, Kris Harrison, claimed the Glock pistol accidentally discharged while he was showing it to her. While a Collin County grand jury declined to bring charges, a British coroner concluded that the death was a homicide and constituted manslaughter under British law.

Jane Coates, the victim's mother, has requested that Cheshire Police in the United Kingdom collect evidence in Britain to assist American authorities. However, Cheshire Police stated they lack the legal jurisdiction to intervene in decisions made by the U.S. justice system, noting that the suspect, witnesses, and physical evidence are located abroad.
