Texas Southern football wins season opener with comeback victory
Texas Southern University opened its football season with a 42-30 comeback victory against North Carolina Central at W. W. Thorne Stadium in Houston. Despite trailing 14-0 in the first quarter and 24-14 at halftime, the Tigers outscored the Eagles 28-6 in the second half to secure the win.
Quarterback Cam’Ron McCoy led the turnaround with three touchdown passes, including a 45-yard connection to Roriyon Richardson. Running back Athean Renfro Jr. contributed significantly on the ground, recording 163 rushing yards and a touchdown. Jaquan McGee also added two receiving touchdowns.
Following the game, new Athletic Director Ashley Robinson expressed optimism regarding the program's future. Robinson highlighted a long-term vision shared with President J. W. Crawford III, which includes a capital campaign to construct a new on-campus stadium for the university.
