Texas woman arrested for allegedly exchanging child abuse for prescription drugs

Alicia Evonne Sanchez, 37, has been arrested in Smith County, Texas, on charges of continuous sexual assault of a child under the age of 14. Authorities allege that Sanchez facilitated the repeated abuse of a child by Kenneth Haygood, a 56-year-old doctor in Tyler, Texas, in exchange for prescription medications, including Adderall.

Investigators report that the abuse occurred on at least ten separate occasions between 2019 and 2023. During these visits, Sanchez allegedly remained in the room while the assaults took place. When the child expressed distress or begged for the abuse to stop, Sanchez reportedly told the child, “This is what doctors do.”

Haygood, whose medical license was suspended in October 2023, is already serving an eight-year prison sentence following a plea agreement for sexually assaulting two female patients. Sanchez faces a potential sentence of up to 99 years or life in prison if convicted. The case was brought to light after the victim disclosed the abuse to a counselor.
