Texas women's soccer defeats Pitt 1-0 via late penalty
The University of Texas women's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over the University of Pittsburgh at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The decisive moment occurred in the 74th minute when a video review resulted in a handball penalty for Pitt.
Amalia Villarreal converted the penalty into the bottom-left corner, marking her fourth consecutive scoring match. Texas goalkeeper Bayliss Flynn recorded six saves to maintain the shutout, becoming the first Texas goalkeeper in at least 20 years to record back-to-back clean sheets in her first two starts.
Despite the loss, Pitt controlled significant portions of the match, particularly through attacks on the right flank. Pitt head coach Ben Waldrum noted that while the team controlled large stretches of play, the margin for error remained razor-thin.
