Texel launches revamped museum summer with new Waelstee exhibit and adventure path

The Dutch North Sea island of Texel has opened its museum season following a major renovation of the Waelstee Museum. The new exhibition, titled “What is typical Texel for you?”, invites visitors to explore the island’s history, from the story of World‑II resistance fighter Cornelia Boon‑Verberg and the development of the Texel sheep breed to Roman grave finds and evolving tourism festivals.

The museum’s rear wing now houses a large windowed lecture hall overlooking an inner courtyard, a cultural lab for local artists, and an expanded film hall. It is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday.

At the Maritime and Beach‑Finds Museum Flora, a new Strandgut Adventure Path has been inaugurated, offering an outdoor course with rope swings, a boat climb, anchor lifting and a maze for children and adults. Meanwhile, the rare plush‑head duck rescued off Texel is now on display at the Ecomare Nature Museum, completing the island’s refreshed cultural offerings.
