Texel offers 250 km of hiking routes and historical trails
Texel, an island in the province of North Holland, offers an extensive hiking network totaling approximately 250 km. This network allows visitors to explore the island's history and natural landscapes through various routes.
The Noord-Hollandpad, a 284 km route spanning the entire province, begins its first two stages on Texel. The first stage starts near the red lighthouse at the island's northern tip, passing through the Eierland polder and the Waalenburg nature area, which is the oldest meadow bird reserve in the Netherlands.
Additional routes include green paths through dune nature reserves, which reopen to the public on September 1st following the breeding season. Notable landmarks along the trails include the town of Den Burg, the Hoge Berg area, and the historic Fort De Schans, which dates back to 1574.
