Textile art exhibitions open in Guatemala and Spain

The Museo Nacional de Historia in Guatemala has inaugurated the exhibition ‘Kab’lajuj No’j, Doce Sabidurías’. The showcase aims to highlight the knowledge, techniques, and creative processes of weavers and artisans, representing the country's cultural heritage. A notable piece in the collection is the Paya de Patzún, a traditional hand-embroidered ceremonial veil from Chimaltenango, which was included following research into its symbolism and construction. The exhibition, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, will remain open to the public until September 12.

In Spain, the Museo de Arte Moderno y Contemporáneo de Santander y Cantabria (MAS) is hosting ‘Una chula’, an exhibition by artist Chelo Matesanz. The collection features approximately thirty pieces, including paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media works that use textiles as a central element. Matesanz utilizes weaving, embroidery, and ceramic modeling to reinterpret compositions related to abstract expressionism and informalism. The exhibition is scheduled to run until October 11, 2026.
