Textile initiatives highlighted in Chubut and Rapa Nui

In Tecka, Argentina, the First Chubut Wool Textile Art Contest was held as part of the provincial Tejiendo Futuro program. The event brought together artisans and textile groups from various locations, including Gualjaina, Facundo, Gastre, Colán Conhué, Las Plumas, and Cushamen. The initiative, which was declared of Legislative Interest by the Chubut Legislature, aims to professionalize textile art and promote regional development through cultural identity.

In Rapa Nui, a community textile reuse project has been presented as a model for the Magallanes region. Originating during the pandemic to prevent textile waste from entering landfills, the municipal program includes a free shop, garment repair, and workshops. The initiative allows community members to donate textiles, receive free clothing, and participate in training sessions to transform damaged materials into new products like bags and cushions.
