Textile production model proposed to boost Turkish competitiveness
A new production model has been introduced to support the Turkish textile and ready-to-wear sector, which is currently facing challenges in maintaining competitiveness due to rising production and labor costs. Announced at MÜSİAD EXPO 2026, the model proposes collaboration with Syria’s existing manufacturing infrastructure.
Abdullah Karaca, the Turkey representative for the Syrian General Union of Tradesmen and Craftsmen, stated that the initiative aims to combine Turkey’s strengths in branding, design, technology, and marketing with Syria’s human resources and production capacity. The plan focuses on utilizing Syria’s 400 textile workshops and 10,000 skilled workers, primarily centered in Aleppo, Damascus, and Hama.
To encourage participation, the model includes a support program offering up to $1,000 per month for 36 months for qualifying investment and production models, totaling $36,000. The goal is not to move production away from Turkey, but to supplement it by activating existing Syrian capabilities.
