Tezonapa cemeteries pose dengue health risk due to neglect

Residents of Tezonapa and the community of Villanueva have raised alarms regarding a growing health risk caused by overgrown vegetation and accumulated rainwater in local cemeteries. Inhabitants claim that the lack of maintenance by Mayor Omar Paz Morán has turned these burial grounds into breeding sites for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the vector responsible for transmitting dengue.

Local citizens described the state of the central and Villanueva cemeteries as a sign of administrative abandonment, noting that unmanaged weeds, hidden graves, and containers holding rainwater create ideal habitats for mosquito reproduction. Residents have demanded immediate cleaning and fumigation to prevent a potential dengue outbreak, especially as recent rains exacerbate the conditions.
