Amy Navarrete Arriola killed in Oaxaca armed attack

An armed attack during a traditional patron saint festival in the community of Paso Guayabo, located in the Matías Romero municipality of Oaxaca, resulted in the deaths of three people. Among the victims was Amy Navarrete Arriola, a lawyer, academic, and former candidate for the Green Ecological Party of Mexico (PVEM) for the municipal presidency of Matías Romero.

The attack occurred on the night of Tuesday, September 8, during the 'Lavado de Ollas' celebration in honor of the Virgin of the Nativity. Witnesses reported that armed individuals entered the municipal dome and fired directly at the attendees. The deceased included Navarrete Arriola and two men, one of whom has been identified as F. M.
