TG Jones announces national restructuring and store closures

TG Jones is undergoing a major national restructuring that includes the closure of multiple stores across the United Kingdom. Following the acquisition and rebranding of WHSmith’s former High Street division by Modella Capital, a restructuring plan sanctioned by the High Court could result in up to 150 store closures nationwide as the company seeks to avoid insolvency.

Local authorities and business groups have expressed concern regarding the impact on high streets and employees. In Bridgnorth, the Town Council voiced disappointment over the impending closure, noting the professional uncertainty facing local staff and the broader challenge of empty premises in town centres.

In Cornwall, the flagship TG Jones branch in Truro is scheduled to close on October 10, which will also result in the loss of a city-centre post office. The Truro Business Improvement District expressed disappointment, citing the challenges facing large high street retailers in the face of shifting consumer habits.
