TG SAFE seizes 55 tonnes of food products from Sahil Foods

The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) has seized 55 tonnes of food products, valued at approximately ₹33.94 lakh, during inspections of five snack manufacturing units operated by Sahil Foods near Katedan.

Inspectors reported significant hygiene and safety violations at the Premavathi Pet facilities, including accumulated food waste on production conveyors, poorly maintained machinery, inadequate ventilation, and unhygienic storage practices such as keeping food directly on the floor. Officials also noted that workers were reportedly chewing gutka and pan masala inside the units, and synthetic food colours were stored in unclean buckets.

Beyond sanitation issues, the company faced several regulatory deficiencies. These included manufacturing food categories not covered by their existing FSSAI licences, failing to maintain production and sales records, and lacking shelf-life study reports or water analysis records. Consequently, TG SAFE has suspended the licences and registrations of four units and ordered them to cease operations. Eleven food samples have been sent to a laboratory for testing to check for potential adulteration.
