TG SAFE suspends five food licenses in Hyderabad following hygiene raids
The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) suspended the FSSAI licenses of five food establishments in Hyderabad following inspections of 12 manufacturing and retail outlets. The raids, conducted by teams of Food Safety Officers and police, targeted businesses selling pheni and khara across the Core Urban Region.
Inspectors reported severe hygiene violations, including housefly infestations, poor personal hygiene among workers, and unhygienic manufacturing areas. Specific concerns included the presence of gutka and pan masala stains on walls and contamination of food products with extraneous matter such as discarded gutka packets. Officials also noted that oil was allegedly being reused for frying and that drains were left uncovered.
As a result of the inspections, approximately 1,950 kg of pheni, valued at Rs 2.3 lakh, was seized due to labeling violations and quality concerns. Among the businesses ordered to cease operations were Sri Ganesh Khara and Feni, JP Foods, Prem Puri Sweet Phani Shop, Mahaveer Namkeen, and GM Mixture. Additionally, Anjani Foods and Peni Works was ordered to stop operations for functioning without a license under unhygienic conditions. Show-cause notices were issued to six other establishments.
