TGA Central launches large battery storage facility in Ostrava

TGA Central, a subsidiary of the Krnov-based TGA Holding, has launched one of the largest battery storage facilities in the Czech Republic in Kunčice, near Ostrava. The project involved an investment exceeding 600 million CZK.

The facility consists of eleven large containers, each providing approximately 1.2 megawatts of power and 3 megawatthours of capacity. In total, the storage unit offers a power output of 12.5 megawatts and a capacity of 33 megawatthours. This capacity is roughly three times larger than the 10-megawatt storage facility operated by ČEZ in Vítkovice.

According to Robin Peška, managing director of TGA Central, the system is designed to stabilize the electrical grid by storing surplus energy when production exceeds demand and discharging it back into the grid during periods of low production, such as in the evening. The liquid-cooled batteries are also equipped with self-extinguishing systems to ensure safety.
