TGS launches Sarawak Phase 4 offshore seismic survey in Malaysia

TGS has announced the commencement of the Sarawak Phase 4 multi-client program offshore Malaysia. The survey will cover approximately 1,020 square kilometers using the Ramform Sovereign, which is scheduled to mobilize in the fourth quarter. Data acquisition is expected to conclude by December 2026.

This project represents the fourth phase of a larger contract to acquire and process up to 105,000 square kilometers of 3D seismic data in the Sarawak basins. To date, over 20,000 square kilometers have been completed through the first three phases. The Sarawak basins are recognized as highly prolific hydrocarbon-bearing regions in Southeast Asia.

PETRONAS, via Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), is utilizing these enhanced datasets to identify new exploration plays, specifically targeting the pre-Middle Miocene Unconformity (MMU) play in deep-water areas. The initiative aims to assist clients in assessing exploration opportunities for the Malaysia Bid Round and is supported by industry funding.
