TH Joias and four others become defendants in Rio corruption and arms trafficking case

The Tribunal Regional Federal da 2ª Região (TRF2) has unanimously accepted an indictment from the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) against former state deputy Thiego Raimundo de Oliveira Santos, known as ‘TH Joias’, and four others. The group is accused of belonging to a criminal organization linked to the Comando Vermelho faction.

According to the investigation, known as Operation Zargun, the group infiltrated public institutions, including the Rio de Janeiro Legislative Assembly (Alerj) and various state secretariats. This infiltration allowed them to obtain police data, facilitate the illegal trade of weapons and drugs, and leak information regarding police operations.

The indictment alleges that the group engaged in the smuggling of restricted ammunition and the clandestine importation of drone signal blockers to sabotage police monitoring in various communities. TH Joias is accused of leading the group's influence within Alerj.

In addition to the former deputy, the defendants include Gabriel Dias de Oliveira (Índio), Luiz Eduardo Cunha Gonçalves (Dudu), former state secretary Alessandro Pitombeira Carracena, and Federal Police delegate Gustavo Stteel. The court has also ordered the transfer of TH Joias to a federal penitentiary.
