Thủ Lệ Park renovation to feature Eco-Zoo and open spaces
Hanoi is planning a major renovation of Thủ Lệ Park to transform it into an open, ecological space. The new urban planning project aims to remove the existing concrete perimeter walls, allowing the public free access to the park's water features and amenities. The plan also includes direct pedestrian links to the S8 metro station of the Nhổn – Ga Hà Nội line.
A core component of the redesign is the transition of the zoo to an ‘Eco-Zoo’ model. Instead of traditional iron cages, animals will live in semi-wild environments using ecological moats, sunken fences, and reinforced glass partitions. Advanced biotechnology will be applied to manage odor pollution.
To preserve the sanctity of the Voi Phục Temple, a national special relic, the proposal includes removing high-noise sensation games and amusement areas nearby. These spaces will be replaced with festival squares, walking paths, and green buffers to restore a quiet, dignified atmosphere for spiritual activities and cultural heritage protection.
