Thai Airways crew member arrested for heroin smuggling in Melbourne

A 26‑year‑old Thai cabin crew member on Thai Airways flight TG465 from Bangkok to Melbourne was detained by Australian authorities after a sniffer dog and X‑ray inspection revealed about one kilogram of heroin hidden in the linings of her twelve tote bags. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Border Force (ABF) confirmed the white powder tested positive for heroin and estimated its street value at roughly A$500,000 (about US$345,000). The employee has been charged with importing and possessing a marketable quantity of a border‑controlled drug, offenses carrying a maximum penalty of 25 years' imprisonment. She was remanded in custody on 26 June and is due to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court in September.

Thai Airways International issued a statement confirming the employee’s role, pledging full cooperation with Thai and Australian authorities, and launching an internal disciplinary investigation that could lead to her dismissal. The airline reaffirmed its strict policy prohibiting staff from possessing or transporting illegal substances and said staff are regularly reminded of these rules before flights.
